Dream symbol: crying

The image of crying in both classical astrology and Carl Jung’s psychology carries significant weight. In classic traditions, tears are often associated with grief, sorrow, and purification, echoing the notion that shedding tears can be a cathartic process towards healing inner wounds or confronting difficult emotions. From a Jungian perspective, however, these tears might represent the manifestation of repressed archetypes, bringing to light unconscious patterns, fears, and traumas within an individual’s psyche.

In common psychological contexts, seeing oneself cry often points to feelings of intense sadness, loss, disappointment, or profound grief. It could also signify emotional overwhelm or a need for deep self-reflection. When this symbol appears in dreams, it prompts introspection: What am I feeling that’s causing me to cry? Am I being honest with myself about my emotions, and do these tears indicate a need to address something important emotionally?

For practical note, the act of crying can sometimes be an overlooked outlet for pent-up emotions. Recognizing this and making time to express these feelings through various means—whether it’s writing down one’s thoughts or speaking them aloud—can be therapeutic and lead to healing.
