How to read a tarot card without taking it personally

The most useful skill in tarot is not memorising 78 meanings. It is the ability to receive a card without flinching.

When the Tower lands first in your spread, you have two choices: take it as a doom-prophecy and brace, or take it as a question — what foundation in my life is asking to be examined?

Try this: the next time you draw a card you don’t like, do nothing for 60 seconds. Don’t reshuffle. Don’t redraw. Don’t reach for the meaning book. Just look at the card and ask, gently, where in my life is this already true?

Almost every time, the card was naming something the conscious mind hadn’t quite admitted yet.
